About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is a central job board for data-labeling and AI-training work, aggregating projects from many AI companies and labeling platforms into one place. Creating an OpenTrain account is free and applying takes only a few minutes.

We connect contributors with short- and long-term projects that power real AI systems. If you’re new to this kind of work, OpenTrain helps you find roles that match your skills and availability.

About AI training and why it matters

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building machine intelligence. People prepare and review examples—like transcriptions—that models learn from, which improves accuracy and safety.

This role contributes directly to that process by turning spoken audio into accurate text and by marking pronunciation and audio-quality details that help models learn natural speech patterns.

The role

You will analyze short English audio recordings and produce precise transcriptions following detailed project instructions. Tasks include identifying target words, marking minor mispronunciations, and assessing audio quality.

This is an entry-level, part-time contractor role that is fully remote but limited to native English speakers located in the USA or Canada.

What you'll do day to day

Work independently to review and transcribe audio clips, apply labeling guidelines, and submit your annotations through the project’s web-based interface (labeling software listed as OTHER).

  • Listen to short spoken audio clips and transcribe speech accurately into text.
  • Identify and label target words or phrases as specified by the project.
  • Assess audio quality and flag clips with noise, overlap, or low intelligibility.
  • Note and label minor pronunciation variations according to guidelines.
  • Follow precise instructions for formatting, timestamps, and labeling rules.

Requirements

We require the following qualifications and commitments. All items below come from the project description and are mandatory.

  • Native English speaker residing in the USA or Canada.
  • Strong listening and transcription skills; experience preferred in audio transcription, linguistic annotation, or data labeling.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and labeling guidelines with high accuracy.
  • Familiarity with spoken language variations and minor mispronunciations.
  • Reliable internet connection and ability to work with audio files.
  • Must be able to commit at least 1 hour per day, Monday–Friday, for the next 1+ year.
  • Entry-level applicants welcome; this is a contractor, part-time position.
  • Estimated workload: less than 20 hours per week.

Schedule, pay, and employment type

This is a part-time contractor role paid hourly. The project requires a minimum daily commitment and runs for at least one year.

  • Pay: $15.00 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).
  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Time requirement: At least 1 hour/day Monday–Friday; under 20 hours/week.
  • Project duration: 1+ year commitment expected.

Who should apply

Apply if you are detail-oriented, comfortable with careful listening, and can maintain consistent availability on weekdays. Prior transcription or annotation experience is a strong fit but not strictly required for entry-level contributors.

  • Freelancers seeking steady, weekday micro-shifts of transcription work.
  • Students, parents, or part-time workers who can commit short daily sessions.
  • Anyone fluent in North American English with a good ear for pronunciation and audio quality.
