About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is a centralized job board for AI training and data-labeling work. We aggregate openings from many AI companies and labeling platforms so applicants can find relevant projects in one place instead of searching dozens of sites.

Creating an OpenTrain account is free and applying takes only a few minutes. This listing is for a contract role posted on the OpenTrain platform.

About AI training and why it matters

AI training (also called data labeling, annotation, or human feedback work) is the human contribution that helps models learn to reason, answer, and behave safely. Tasks include evaluating model outputs, writing reference solutions, rating responses, and fact-checking.

In this role you’ll shape how biology-focused AI systems understand methods, concepts, and clinical or research reasoning. Your expertise directly improves model accuracy and usefulness for scientific and educational use cases.

The role

We are hiring contract biology subject-matter experts to evaluate AI-generated text answers and to produce model explanations and solutions. This is an intermediate-level, work-from-anywhere contract role focused on text-based evaluation and RLHF-style workflows.

Work type and tooling: data type is TEXT; label types include EVALUATION_RATING, TEXT_GENERATION, QUESTION_ANSWERING, and RLHF. Labeling will be completed on a platform categorized as OTHER. Employment type: CONTRACTOR. This project is open worldwide.

What you'll do

  • Assess AI-generated biological solutions for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to prompts.
  • Identify errors in methodology, conceptual understanding, experimental reasoning, or interpretation.
  • Fact-check biological claims and references using public scientific and technical sources.
  • Write clear, high-quality biological explanations and model solutions that demonstrate correct reasoning.
  • Rate or compare multiple AI responses for correctness, reasoning quality, and completeness.
  • Provide targeted corrective feedback to help improve future model outputs.

Minimum requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, or a closely related life-science field.
  • Degree must be from a top 100 university.
  • Strong knowledge of human biology, animal biology, molecular pathways, physiology, and disease or health fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate biological reasoning and step-by-step scientific problem-solving.
  • Experience with lab, experimental, or research-based reasoning in biology or related life sciences.
  • Strong fact-checking ability using public scientific and technical sources.
  • Excellent written English skills with C1 proficiency or higher and the ability to explain advanced biological concepts clearly and accurately.
  • Comfortable reviewing AI-generated answers for correctness, clarity, prompt adherence, and conceptual soundness.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior experience in data labeling, RLHF, AI model evaluation, or similar AI training workflows is preferred.
  • Experience writing model answers or teaching/explaining advanced biology topics is a plus.

Compensation and logistics

Pay structure: this is paid per hour. Typical/target rate is $45 USD per hour with a pay range of $25–$55 USD per hour.

Status: contractor. The project is remote and open worldwide. Specific hours and scheduling may vary by project; many AI-training roles offer flexible scheduling depending on task requirements.
