About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is a centralized job board for AI-training and data-labeling work. We aggregate projects from many AI companies and labeling platforms so contributors can discover opportunities in one place.

Creating an OpenTrain account is free and applying to roles typically takes only a few minutes.

About AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback) is the human side of building modern AI systems. People create, review, and verify examples that help models learn tasks such as language reasoning, bioinformatic analyses, or coding.

This role sits at the intersection of computational biology and AI training: you will design text-based research problems and reproducible verification steps that are used to train and evaluate models or to generate high-quality training data.

The Role

You will design and verify original, computationally intensive biology research problems that require non-trivial reasoning and must be solved and validated using Python.

Problems must reflect real research workflows in bioinformatics, systems biology, or molecular modeling and require verification with standard computational biology libraries. Work is project-based and part-time; hours vary by project phase.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours/week
  • Data type: Text; Labeling focus: Text generation, evaluation/rating, fine-tuning
  • Labeling software: OTHER (project-specific tooling)

What You'll Do

Produce clear, research-grade problem statements and provide complete answers with reproducible verification steps and code examples.

Ensure problems map to realistic research workflows and include required inputs, expected outputs, and validation procedures using standard libraries.

  • Design computational biology problems in bioinformatics, systems biology, or molecular modeling.
  • Write reproducible Python verification steps using libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, and Biopython.
  • Provide working example solutions and step-by-step validation that other reviewers can run.
  • Include notes on expected computational complexity, data formats, and any assumptions.

Requirements

All listed requirements are mandatory for this role. Applicants must provide a CV in English, state their level of English proficiency, and include an email address and phone number on the CV.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years professional biology or computational biology experience.
  • Advanced Python skills, including NumPy and SciPy; experience with Biopython or equivalent libraries.
  • Experience analyzing biological data and algorithms and familiarity with bioinformatics tools and computational methods.
  • Hands-on text annotation or review experience and subject-matter familiarity with bioinformatics/computational biology problems.

Hours, Pay, and Contract Details

This is part-time, project-based contractor work. Hours vary by project phase but expect 20+ hours per week.

Compensation is determined by project scope and complexity.

  • Payment type: Pay per hour (USD).
  • Hourly rate range: $15–$60 USD per hour (posted hourlyRate: $60; hourlyMin: $15; hourlyMax: $60).
  • Projects will specify exact payment and timeline during the offer stage.

Restricted Locations

Although this role is remote and open worldwide, candidates located in certain countries and territories are excluded from acquisition for this position. Please confirm your current country of residence before applying.

  • Excluded countries: Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Sudan, Venezuela, Myanmar, Russia, Belarus, Palestine
  • Also excluded: Switzerland; China; Taiwan; Kenya
  • Excluded U.S. states: Alaska, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia
  • Excluded territories: Antarctica, Aruba, Åland Islands, Saint Barthélemy, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, Bouvet Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cook Islands, Christmas Island, Western Sahara, Falkland Islands (Malvinas), French Guiana, Guadeloupe, South Georgia

How It Works and How To Apply

Apply through OpenTrain by submitting your CV in English with your email address, phone number, and stated English proficiency level. Creating an OpenTrain account is free and applications typically take only a few minutes.

If selected, you will be hired as a contractor on a project-by-project basis. Each project will include a scope, expected hours, deliverables, and precise payment details.

  • Prepare sample problem statements or past work that demonstrates reproducible Python verification steps (optional but helpful).
  • Ensure your CV documents your biology degree, computational experience, and Python/bioinformatics skills.
  • Expect onboarding and project-specific instructions with dataset descriptions and tooling access as required.
