About AI training work

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building artificial intelligence: people prepare, review, and refine examples that models learn from. Tasks range from translation and editing to scoring model outputs and writing model-guidance answers.

This type of work is mostly remote, often part-time and flexible, and accessible to experienced language professionals who want to apply linguistic expertise to cutting-edge systems.

  • Remote, flexible work you can fit around other commitments
  • Direct impact on how generative AI handles language and localization
  • Entry point to a fast-growing field that values language expertise

The Role

You will evaluate and improve AI-generated German and English text for the Germany locale. Your focus is linguistic quality, cultural appropriateness, and alignment with prompts and guidelines.

As a contractor (part-time, under 20 hours/week) you will produce corrected outputs and clear explanations, classify and quantify errors using MQM/LQA-style taxonomies, and rank or rate multiple model responses using structured criteria.

  • Contractor, part-time role (must be based in Germany)
  • Pay: USD 35 per hour
  • Data type: text; label types include evaluation/rating, RLHF, and translation/localization

What you'll do

Work from prompts and style guides to assess AI outputs and create high-quality corrected responses and model answers. Provide clear, defensible explanations for quality decisions.

Apply established QA workflows and CAT/QA tools to ensure consistency and maintain terminology resources.

  • Evaluate accuracy, clarity, reasoning, and adherence to prompts and guidelines
  • Identify linguistic and methodological issues and assign MQM/LQA error categories/severities
  • Fact-check details (units, names, dates, references) and document sources when needed
  • Write corrected outputs and model answers with explanations
  • Rate or rank multiple AI responses using structured evaluation criteria
  • Use CAT tools, translation memories, termbases, and automated QA checks as required

Requirements

All required qualifications come from the project needs and must be met to be considered for this role.

  • Currently based in Germany (location requirement)
  • Native or near-native German proficiency with strong professional writing/editing skills for the Germany locale
  • English proficiency at C1+ (reading and writing) to interpret prompts, sources, and evaluation guidelines
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in German Translation, Linguistics, Localization, Communications, or a related field
  • 5+ years professional localization/translation experience (multilingual localization preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience applying MQM/LQA (severity/category decisions, consistent error classification, root-cause analysis)
  • Proficiency with CAT tools and QA workflows (translation memory/termbases, automated checks, structured guidelines)
  • Strong terminology management and copyediting ability (tone, register, inclusivity, cultural nuance)
  • Ability to rigorously fact-check localized content using reliable sources
  • Available for less than 20 hours per week; engagement is contractor/part-time

Preferred qualifications

The following are not required but will strengthen your application and help you hit the ground running.

  • Prior experience with AI data training, annotation, or model evaluation (preferred)
  • Background in multilingual localization programs or tooling at scale
