About AI training and this kind of work
AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human work behind modern machine learning systems. People prepare and review examples—like identifying actions in video—so models learn to understand and describe real-world events.
This type of work is often remote, flexible, and accessible to beginners; contributors help shape how AI systems behave while choosing their own hours on many projects.
- You’ll help train models by labeling actions in video.
- Work is typically remote and flexible; many projects accept entry-level contributors.
The role
Watch NBA games (live or within a couple hours after they air) and record specific in-game events using a provided template. Each logged event captures who acted, what happened, the quarter, and the game-clock time.
This is an entry-level, part-time contractor role open worldwide. You will use internal proprietary tooling to enter labels for action-recognition on video data.
- Data type: video (game footage).
- Label type: action recognition (player, event, quarter, clock).
- Labeling software: internal proprietary tooling provided by the project.
- Employment: contractor, part-time. Worldwide applicants accepted.
- Time commitment: less than 20 hours per week.
What you'll do day to day
Watch assigned NBA games and log every relevant in-game event into the provided template and tooling. You can work live or shortly after a game finishes, as long as entries are made within the allowed window.
Follow clear, project-provided instructions and examples to ensure consistency across labels.
- Identify the player involved in each event (e.g., LeBron James).
- Classify the event type (free throw, 3-pointer, rebound, turnover, etc.).
- Record the quarter and the game-clock time when the event occurred.
- Enter each label into the supplied template and submit through the internal tool.
Requirements
You must be familiar with the rules of basketball and able to recognize common in-game events. The role is entry-level and does not require prior labeling experience.
You should be able to watch full NBA games live or shortly after they air to capture events within the requested window.
- Familiarity with basketball rules and common events is required.
- Able to watch full games live or within a couple hours after airing.
- Comfortable entering structured data into a supplied template via internal tooling.
Compensation and schedule
This role pays per label at a rate of $0.20 USD per recorded event. The project provides a paid streaming subscription (League Pass, YouTube TV, etc.) so you can access all required NBA games.
Work is part-time/contractor and limited to less than 20 hours per week; you choose available games to label within the project guidelines.
- Pay type: pay-per-label at $0.20 USD per label.
- Streaming subscription to watch required games is provided by the project.
- Part-time contractor arrangement, under 20 hours/week.
How it works: tooling, training, and submission
You will receive clear instructions, examples, and a simple template to enter each event. Labels are submitted through the project's internal proprietary tooling.
The project focuses on action-recognition in video: you tag who did what, in which quarter, and at what game-clock time. Quality checks and examples will guide your labeling decisions.
- Training materials and example labels are provided before you start.
- Use the supplied template to enter: player, event, quarter, and clock_time.
- Submit labels through the internal proprietary labeling tool.
