About AI training work
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human effort that teaches models how to understand and use real-world information. Tasks include annotating text, images, audio, and evaluating or correcting model outputs.
This kind of work is often fully remote and accessible to people who are careful, curious, and good at research; contributors directly shape how AI systems behave.
The role
You will work as a Human Labeling Analyst / Data Annotation Specialist who manually verifies and annotates company records. Each record represents a company; your job is to find, confirm, correct, and document specific company attributes using public sources.
All work is manual: no automation or AI tools may be used. Accuracy, traceability, and clear documentation in English are essential.
- Job type: Contractor (remote, worldwide)
- Pay: $15.00 USD per hour (hourly contractor rate)
- Data type: Text; Label type: Data collection
- Labeling software: Other (you will use Excel for highlighting and recording verified values)
What you'll do
You will research open sources, verify facts, and mark verified values directly in Excel. Expect thoughtful reading, checking multiple sources, and documenting reasoning for each verified field.
- Verify and annotate company name, jurisdiction, and official website
- Identify and record directors and shareholders where available
- Confirm revenue range and the company's payment types (online/offline)
- Search registries, official filings, company websites, LinkedIn, and press coverage
- Correct mistakes, add missing fields, and highlight all verified values in Excel
- Write short English notes documenting your sources and reasoning
Requirements
This is an intermediate-level role that requires strong research ability and attention to detail. You must be comfortable working independently and documenting decisions clearly in English.
- Strong research skills and persistence — keep searching until reasonable sources are exhausted
- Broad knowledge of how businesses operate, legal entities, revenue concepts, and company structures
- Critical thinking and curiosity; do not guess — study topics you don’t fully understand before labeling
- Accuracy and attention to detail; data must be clean, factual, and traceable
- Comfortable writing short English notes and documenting reasoning
- No automation or AI tools allowed — all verification and annotation is manual
Who should apply
Apply if you enjoy deep online research, have steady attention to detail, and take pride in producing traceable, reliable data. This role suits people with prior experience in research, compliance, due diligence, company profiling, or intermediate-level annotation work.
- Suitable for intermediate-level data researchers and annotators
- Worldwide applicants accepted — contractor engagement
How it works
You will receive company records to research, use open-source resources to verify attributes, and record verified values and short notes in Excel. The project follows a contractor model and is paid hourly at the stated rate.
OpenTrain helps you discover and apply for the role; once selected you'll follow the project's annotation guidelines and submit completed work for review.
- Workflow: manual research → verify values → highlight in Excel → submit for review
- Labeling software: Other (Excel is required for highlighting verified values)
- Labeling focus: company profiling / legal entity analysis (text data)
Compensation & logistics
Pay is $15.00 USD per hour. This is an hourly contractor role; exact scheduling and time commitment will be determined by the project and your agreement with the contractor manager.
Because this is remote work, applicants from any country may apply. No specific languages or minimum hours are required beyond the role expectations above.
- Payment type: Pay per hour (USD $15/hr)
