About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. Create a free account to discover projects, build a profile, and apply quickly.

We connect experienced contributors with projects that teach AI systems how to behave — from prompt writing to annotation and evaluation. This role is part of that human-in-the-loop work powering modern AI.

About AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling/annotation) is the human side of building intelligent systems. Contributors create examples, write prompts, evaluate outputs, and improve model behavior.

These projects are often remote, flexible, and accessible: you can work part-time and directly influence how real-world automation and AI integrations behave.

The Role

We are hiring a contractor to develop, generate, and evaluate n8n workflows for AI training and model improvement. You will create prompts and evaluation rubrics so models can learn to build reliable, scalable automation pipelines.

This is a project-based, part-time contract (20+ hours/week) with flexible scheduling. The project focuses on self-hosted n8n environments and automation best practices.

What You'll Do

Produce prompt+response examples and write evaluation criteria for multi-step n8n automations. Use your hands-on experience to critique and improve AI-generated workflows for reliability and performance.

Design and describe resilient workflow patterns that include error handling, retries, idempotency, sequencing, rate-limit-aware batching, and logging/alerting.

  • Generate prompts that require robust n8n design (nodes, execution modes, error branches, retries).
  • Evaluate and rate AI-generated workflows against detailed rubrics for correctness, resilience, and scalability.
  • Improve AI outputs to address API constraints, timeouts, rate limits, and data parsing edge cases.
  • Work with use cases such as content pipelines, lead generation/outreach, and web scraping/extraction reliability.

Required Qualifications

You must have proven, hands-on experience with n8n in self-hosted setups and operations, plus strong English communication at B2 (upper-intermediate) or higher.

Candidates should be comfortable designing, troubleshooting, and optimizing multi-app automation pipelines and documenting examples or a portfolio in English.

  • Proven hands-on n8n experience, including self-hosted setup and maintenance (Docker, env vars, credentials, basic ops).
  • Experience building complex automation pipelines: APIs, webhooks, OAuth/API keys, data mapping, and multi-step flows.
  • Deep understanding of n8n workflow logic, nodes, execution modes, and troubleshooting failed runs.
  • Ability to design resilient workflows: retries, deduping/idempotency, error branches, logging/alerting.
  • Knowledge of rate limits, batching, timeouts, and workflow optimization to prevent failures.
  • Web scraping experience (Apify or similar) with extraction reliability, parsing, and structured/unstructured data handling.
  • Experience with data processing/transformation (JSON, CSV, HTML parsing; validation and normalization).
  • Hands-on experience evaluating LLM outputs for legal reasoning quality, text annotation, or rubric-based QA.
  • Familiarity with AI integrations (LLM calls, enrichment steps) is a strong plus.
  • Portfolio or textual descriptions of scalable automations/end-to-end workflows preferred.

Hours, Rate, and Contract Details

This is a contractor, part-time engagement requiring 20+ hours per week and flexible scheduling.

Pay is hourly in USD. Rate range provided by the project is $15–$45 per hour, with a top rate up to $45/hr; this project pays per hour.

  • Employment types: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours/week.
  • Payment: PAY_PER_HOUR (USD), hourly range $15–$45; maximum listed $45/hr.

Locations, Language, and Restrictions

The project accepts applicants globally but has explicit acquisition restrictions. You must be able to work remotely and communicate in English at or above B2 level.

Please check the restricted-locations list carefully; applicants from these places cannot be acquired for this project.

  • Required locations: Global — Any location, with restrictions.
  • Required English level: B2+ (conversational/upper-intermediate) written and spoken.
  • Restricted countries/regions: Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Sudan, Venezuela, Myanmar, Russia, Belarus, Palestine.
  • Additional restricted locations: Switzerland; China, Taiwan; Kenya; many US states (see full list in application); and a long list of overseas territories (see job text).

How to Apply

Prepare a CV in English that states your English proficiency level, and includes an email address and phone number. Describe relevant n8n projects or paste short examples/links to workflow descriptions or repositories.

Applications should show concrete, hands-on experience with self-hosted n8n, Docker, credentials management, and examples of resilient workflow design or evaluation work.

  • Include: CV in English, English proficiency level, contact email, phone number, and portfolio/examples or textual descriptions of past n8n automations.
  • Be prepared to demonstrate workflows and explain design choices (error handling, rate-limit strategies, data parsing).
  • Labeling software: Other — you will use project tools or custom interfaces provided by the client.
