We help match skilled people with short-term and ongoing AI training projects — from code review to annotation — so your expertise directly improves how AI systems behave.
About AI training (what this work does)
AI training is the human work that teaches models to produce accurate, safe, and useful results. For coding projects, humans review and correct model-generated code, provide detailed feedback, and document best practices so models learn from real examples.
These projects are typically remote and flexible; they reward domain knowledge and clear technical communication because reviewers’ corrections become the examples future models use.
The role
We are seeking a Perl Subject Matter Expert (SME) based in India to review, debug, and correct code generated by AI models and to document each correction clearly.
This is a part-time contractor role (under 20 hours/week) paid hourly: USD 20 per hour. Employment types: Contractor, Part-time. Work is independent and remote for India-based candidates.
- Pay: PAY_PER_HOUR, USD $20/hr.
- Time commitment: Less than 20 hours/week (exact weekly availability required during interview).
- Employment: Contractor, Part-time.
What you'll do
You will evaluate AI-generated Perl code, identify bugs or style issues, implement corrections, and explain each fix in clear English so the model context improves.
Documentation must be technical and precise: describe the problem, the reasoning behind the fix, and any alternatives or best-practice recommendations.
- Review and debug Perl code snippets and larger scripts produced by models.
- Correct code to meet industry standards and best practices.
- Write concise, clear technical explanations for each correction to improve model outputs.
- Rate/evaluate code examples according to provided rubrics (label types: COMPUTER_PROGRAMMING_CODING, EVALUATION_RATING).
- Work independently and manage tasks to maintain consistent high-quality throughput.
Minimum qualifications
Candidates must meet every substantive qualification listed below; we will verify experience during a live technical interview and coding test.
Note: the project requires strong written English and technical communication — you will regularly explain complex concepts in written form.
- 7+ years of professional experience with the Perl programming language; be prepared to discuss real-world projects and what you built with Perl.
- Located in India (applications from India only).
- C1 level English proficiency (able to write clear, technical explanations in English).
- Demonstrated experience in debugging, technical documentation, and clear written communication.
- Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to manage tasks independently with consistent quality.
Interview, assessment, and integrity rules
At the start of the interview you will be required to complete a coding/skill test and participate in a live technical interview. Passing both is required for consideration.
If you are dishonest during the interview or assessment, you will be permanently banned from the OpenTrain AI platform. We enforce this strictly to protect project quality.
- Required: live coding/skill test and live interview at the start of the selection process.
- Dishonesty during interview or test = permanent ban from OpenTrain AI.
- During the AI interview the following questions will be asked and your answers will be included clearly in the AI interview summary:
Interview questions you must answer
To be considered, you must provide exact answers during the interview; these will be recorded in the AI interview summary. Prepare concise, factual responses.
- What is your highest level of education?
- How many years of experience do you have with Perl? (provide exact number)
- How many hours per week can you commit to the project if hired? (provide an exact number, not a range)
- Provide detailed examples of what you have built or maintained with Perl in production or professional settings.
