About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect contributors with projects that shape how modern AI systems learn, offering flexible, remote opportunities to work on real-world model training tasks.
About AI Training Work
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building intelligent systems. Contributors create, inspect, and correct examples that teach models how to write, reason, and code — work that’s in high demand and often flexible and remote.
This role focuses on training models that write and understand code: you’ll directly influence how LLMs generate and fix Scala programs by producing precise examples and corrections.
The Role
We are seeking experienced Scala developers to join a long-term AI/LLM training project. This contract, part-time role runs 6+ months and requires a reliable remote setup and consistent weekly availability.
You will write short Scala programs and code snippets from prompts, debug and refine AI-generated Scala code, and craft high-quality training examples that teach models to produce correct, idiomatic Scala.
- Commitment: long-term project (6+ months)
- Weekly hours: flexible, 20–40 hrs/week (candidates should be able to commit 25–40 hrs/week)
- Work style: remote, set your own hours within agreed weekly commitment
- Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
What You'll Do
Daily tasks focus on creating and verifying code examples and corrections that become part of model training datasets. Clear, reproducible work and attention to detail are essential.
- Write concise Scala code snippets and short programs based on provided prompts
- Debug and correct AI-generated Scala code, explaining fixes when required
- Format and annotate examples to meet dataset standards
- Optimize and refactor code for clarity and correctness
- Follow task guidelines precisely to ensure consistent annotations
Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements exactly as stated.
- At least 2 years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on Scala
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Proven ability to develop, troubleshoot, and optimize Scala code
- Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail
- Effective communication skills in English
- Ability to work well in a remote team environment
- Stable internet connection and reliable electricity for consistent remote work
- Ability to commit 25–40 hours per week for a duration of 6 months
- Prior AI data labeling or training experience is preferred but not required
Pay, Assessment, and Terms
This role is paid hourly at USD 9.28 per hour. You will be hired as a contractor on a part-time basis. After you submit your proposal, a Scala coding assessment will be sent for completion as part of the evaluation.
- Payment type: Pay per hour (USD 9.28/hr)
- Proposal evaluation: candidates are assessed; lacking the 2-year Scala requirement will reduce Proposal Qualification scoring (score under 7)
- Worldwide applicants accepted; you must meet the stability and availability requirements
How to Apply
If you meet the requirements and are interested, submit your proposal now. After submission you will receive the Scala coding assessment — completing that assessment is required to proceed.
In your proposal, highlight your Scala experience (projects, years), your typical weekly availability, and confirm your remote setup (internet/electricity).
- Include concise examples of Scala projects or links to code repos if available
- State the number of hours you can commit per week (aim for 25–40 hrs)
- Be prepared to complete the coding assessment sent after you apply
