About AI training and this kind of work
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems. People prepare and review examples—like spoken audio—so models learn correct pronunciation, natural intonation, and appropriate phrasing.
As a speech evaluator you directly shape an AI model’s spoken Arabic by rating outputs and giving concrete guidance that engineers and linguists use to improve the system.
The role
Title: Speech & Accent Evaluator — Southern Levantine Arabic (Jordan). You will listen to AI-generated Arabic audio, rate accent, fluency, and pronunciation, and provide clear, structured feedback to improve the model.
Work is remote but applicants must be physically based in Jordan to ensure familiarity with local pronunciation, accent variations, and linguistic nuances.
- Data type: AUDIO; label type: EVALUATION_RATING; labeling software: OTHER.
- Employment: Contractor, Part-time; time commitment: less than 20 hours/week.
What you'll do day-to-day
You will interact with an AI model in Southern Levantine Arabic by providing audio prompts (when required), listening to model responses, and rating them against criteria for accent, fluency, and correctness.
You will write concise, actionable feedback describing errors or unnatural speech patterns and recommend focused improvements for subsequent model iterations.
- Rate AI speech samples for accent accuracy, pronunciation, intonation, and overall intelligibility.
- Annotate specific errors (mispronunciations, wrong stress, unnatural rhythm) and suggest corrective guidance.
- Participate in iterative evaluations—assess repeated model attempts until desired quality is reached.
Requirements
Candidates must be currently based in Jordan and have at least 2 years of experience using Southern Levantine Arabic in daily communication, either personally or professionally.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to provide clear, structured feedback are essential. A background in linguistics, phonetics, speech analysis, or language teaching is a plus but not required.
- Location requirement: Must be physically located in Jordan.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years using Southern Levantine Arabic daily.
- Experience level: Entry level acceptable; relevant background helpful but optional.
Evaluation process and interview format
You will be assessed through a structured interview and short practical tasks. The interview evaluates your fluency in the target accent, your ability to identify pronunciation and fluency issues, and your skill at producing structured, actionable feedback.
Interviewers will ask about your dialect experience, request descriptions of phonetic or accent-specific features, and present audio samples or iterative scenarios where you must indicate how you'd improve the model through multiple passes.
- Expect questions on how long you've used the dialect and examples of accent-specific features you notice.
- Be prepared to explain how you'd drive iterative improvements until the model reaches a perfect rating for accent and fluency.
- Evaluation criteria include linguistic accuracy, speech-evaluation skills, iterative improvement mindset, and clarity of communication.
