About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is a central job board for AI-training and data-labeling work. It aggregates tasks from many companies so you can discover and apply to projects in one place.

Creating an OpenTrain account is free, and applying for this project takes only a few minutes.

About AI training and image annotation

AI systems learn from examples that people prepare and review. Image annotation — drawing bounding boxes, tagging objects, and checking visual content — is a key part of that human effort.

This project contributes to sports analytics by teaching models to find the volleyball in rally footage and still images.

The role

Label volleyballs in images by drawing bounding boxes around the ball when it is part of a rally. Balls that are just lying on the court, off to the side, or otherwise not in play should not be labeled.

This is a one-time, remote, entry-level contractor gig with flexible hours (less than 20 hours per week). Work can be done from anywhere in the world.

  • Data type: Image
  • Label type: Bounding box
  • Labeling software: CVAT
  • Subject matter: Sports (volleyball)
  • Experience level: Entry level (no prior experience required)
  • Employment: Contractor, part-time
  • Time: Less than 20 hours/week
  • Commitment: One-time job, no ongoing commitment
  • Pay: $0.04 USD per label

What you'll do

Perform precise bounding-box annotations around the volleyball whenever it is in play during a rally. Even if the ball is blurry due to motion, try to mark it as accurately as possible.

  • Open each image in CVAT and draw a tight bounding box around the volleyball used in the rally.
  • Do not label volleyballs that are stationary, out of play, or clearly not part of the rally.
  • Follow any project-specific labeling rules provided in the task instructions.

Requirements

This project is entry-level and welcomes contributors with no prior annotation experience. Careful visual attention and consistency are essential.

  • Ability to follow simple visual labeling instructions and apply them consistently
  • Access to a computer and internet to use the CVAT web tool (CVAT is required for this task)
  • Willingness to label blurrier/faster-moving balls when necessary

Who should apply

Apply if you want a short, focused task you can do remotely, enjoy visual work, and can follow clear guidelines. This is ideal for people looking for flexible, entry-level annotation projects.

How it works

Sign up on OpenTrain (free) and apply — the process takes only a few minutes. If selected, you will complete labeling inside CVAT following the project's instructions.

Payment is on a per-label basis at the rate listed in the posting: $0.04 USD per label. Because this is a one-time project, there are no ongoing commitments beyond the task.
